Boston Public Gardens Wedding

I have been very fortunate in my career to photograph in many beautiful locations, but one of my all time favorite outdoor places to photograph is at the Boston Public Gardens within the Boston Common. Now, you need a permit from the city to take professional portrait photographs within the Common, but once you have that, you are all set. And any time of year in the Common yields amazing places to take portraits. I’ve photographed various couples here for engagement sessions over the years, but was never lucky enough to be booked to photograph a wedding here. Until this year!

Terri and Clem have both been married once, so this time they wanted a small, intimate ceremony with their children and spouses, officiated by a close friend. The closeness of the whole group really was amazing to be a small part of for the time I was able to.

While we were taking part in the ceremony, a bunch of tourists came by and formed a group around to watch. It was really interesting to see how a small, intimate event like this wedding brought people to take time out of their day to just stand and watch. One small group in particular kept moving around to get better pictures of the event. As a photographer, I often have to work around friends and family during a wedding to get the images I want to. However, I’ve never had to work around complete strangers! It was an interesting dynamic. Since the group was taking pictures of his close friends, the Officiant’s husband was a great sport and offered in turn to take a group picture of them. Here he is – a true first ever for me during a wedding!

One of the coolest things about photographing this wedding when I did was that the city of Boston had decorated the statue of George Washington to prove he is a big Bruins fan.
